Custom-Made Re-purposed Focal Point

I had saved the fir timbers from the wall which were torn down at the beginning of this renovation.  I knew something could be built with them.  I  later designed (keeping the scale of the remaining cabinetry in mind) an open-shelving unit which could be retro-fitted into the remaining opening on the wall.  My friend Darren (an amazing carpenter) prepared the fir timbers and built the shelving unit for me.  It was heavy; therefore, I used wooden crates to confirm the unit would indeed fit.

Once the walls were painted, I installed the piece.  Darren had incorporated back boards in order to simplify this process.
